Smithills Open Farm
Smithills Farm is a 200-year-old, family-run farm nestled in the heart of the Bolton countryside. For more than a decade, we’ve been successfully converting our farm into a popular wedding venue with a rustic charm that draws couples from all over the county. To find out why most people say that Smithills Farm is one of the best wedding venues they’ve ever seen and what makes our weddings so special
Our farm has been a part of the family for over 100 years. We produce a variety of crops including wheat, canola, barley, oats, rye, peas, beans, lentils, and canary seed. In addition to growing crops, we also raise beef cattle, dairy cattle, and sheep. Not too shabby for a 200-acre farm with a main building housing 20 cattle pens, or 40 acres with custom built cabins, barns, and meeting rooms. Our barn features a full service kitchen that serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
Most people get two great meals: one for breakfast and one for lunch inside the barn. We prep and bake our own scones at the bakery, providing guests with an array of fresh British and American artisanal baked goods along with fresh fruit and granola.
And that’s just the beginning! Several ton-to-ton’s worth of venues, unique as well as traditional, await those who feel inclined to marry and have an event of any kind at our farm. From lively farm stand dances to a country music celebration to a ceremony with destination weddings, weddings, really any kind of event you can imagine, Smithills has something for you! There’s something for every budget, every personality, and every day of the week.
Every wedding at our farm has some sort of specialty to make it unique and enjoyable: barn dances, floral arrangements, classically styled buffet stations, full breakfasts, personal hors d’oeuvres, and more. So, once you’re deciding on the location, what type of event you want to have, and who you want to get married to, you’ve decided on a perfect venue.
Now, all you have to do is find the venue! Here’s where to find us… Bedding and Farm Vendors The venue at our weddings is the barn. This is the place where guests will spend the day, mingling, and getting to know their future husband/wife. The barn will be decorated with photos, farm memorabilia, and mementos from the event.
We have the best wedding venue in the area, with a rustic charm that draws couples from all over the county. Our building is a historic one, having been built in the 1920s, and we’ve restored it to its original condition with a rustic charm. It’s the type of venue that you’ll feel comfortable having a long engagement with, which means you’ll have time to save for a big day. Our Farm weddings average approximately 250 guests. Here’s how we make it special.
WHAT MAKES OUR WEDDING CELEBRITY
You may have heard that weddings at Smithills come with a hometown discount. Whether it’s naming the ceremony “The Wedding of the Century” or having your guests pay $100 less for their entertainment, our location and the fact that we’re the only farm wedding venue in Bolton mean there’s a great deal of demand and interest from locals. Additionally, because we host throughout September/October, the tables are set up to be packed with families of all sizes so each guest can feel comfortable and well-fed.
THE CUSTOMIZATIONS
Because our weddings are so special, we want them to be as DIY as possible. With that in mind, we try to keep as much of the day as getaway-friendly as possible. We only have two rooms where it’s mandatory – the barn and the main stage – where we offer music, a cocktail reception and centerpieces from the wedding era.
Especially, Our barn is construct of salvaged barn wood, which is exactly how it was in the 1920s. The barn wood is the perfect material – it’s light, inexpensive. Nicely versatile and we’ve been using it for weddings for over 20 years. Because it’s still in great shape, we would never throw it away. Stage The stage is an all original stage found on the farm just after the turn of the century. Magic! It’s a simple thing and we like that.
