Chicago Travel Restrictions

NLU TRAVEL NOTE

Your chances of contracting and getting COVID-19 through travel may be higher. To protect yourself and others, avoid travel. Quarantine requirements for travel are different depending on whether it is domestic or international.

NLU requires that students and employees who are taking part in in-person instruction are registered for their out-of state or international travel.

• Domestic Travel: If you have a negative COVID-19 Test within 3-5 days of your trip, you must quarantine your home for 10 days. • International Travel: It is necessary to test for your flight back to the United States at least 1-3 days in advance. After arriving, you must be tested within 3-5 days. For students from out-of-state:

You may have heard that the Emergency Travel Order was updated by the Chicago Department of Public Health on December 15. The new system allows CDPH to place all 49 US states and two US Territories in three categories, red, orange, and yellow, based on how the data compares with the situation in Chicago.

The revised Emergency Travel Order is:

• Any person traveling from a Red List state must be quarantined for at least 10 days or their stay in Chicago.
• Any person traveling from a state that is on the Orange List is required to have a negative COVID-19 result within 72 hours of arriving in Chicago.
• Anyone traveling from a Yellow List state is not required to undergo a pre-arrival or quarantine test.

CDPH defines high-incidence as states with a new case rate greater than or equal to 15 COVID-19 patients per 100,000 residents per day over a seven-day rolling average. You can also find the FAQ document from Chicago here. The state list is updated on Tuesdays and takes effect on Friday of the following week.

To ensure the safety of our community and for the continued progress in the recovery process from the pandemic it is imperative that we comply with the travel order. Students who are enrolled in Chicago campuses or want to visit any buildings. On the Chicago campus must comply with the Chicago Travel Advisory Order’s quarantining requirements.

Residents students who live at the University Center, and move to Chicago for Winter term classes. January 11th, must arrange travel and preentry testing with Vicki Mullaly (vmullaly@nl.edu). Vicki is Director of Residential Operations and Auxiliary Services. She will be available until January 4, 2021.

This update will help you comply with Chicago’s Emergency Travel Order as you move into University Center. It applies to college students who are moving to Chicago from high-incidence. That is, those with new case rates greater than or equal to 15 COVID-19 patients per 100,000 residents per day. This is a rolling 7-day average. We ask that you check the following.
