Diamond Beach is an iceberg-filled beach that is found in Iceland. The icebergs here come from the Breidamerkurjokull glacier and drop into the Jokulsarlon Glacier Lagoon. The area is also called Breidamerkursandur in Icelandic. This location was first appreciated by tourists when the icebergs began to float and fall into the water. This natural beauty was soon nicknamed Diamond Beach by visitors.

Icebergs

Visiting the Icebergs at Diamond Beach is an amazing experience. These giant chunks of ice that form Iceland’s biggest glacier can range in size from the size of a textbook to towering tens of meters. These icebergs can be viewed from shore or by taking a boat tour. A great way to see these amazing floating wonders is to arrive in the late afternoon, when the sun is setting. If you’re lucky, you might even see the Northern Lights!

The icebergs at Diamond Beach are the product of the glacier Breidamerkurjokull. This glacier releases icebergs into the Jokulsarlon Glacier Lagoon. The icebergs often stop by Diamond Beach, which is located on the south coast of Iceland.

Iceberg Colours

There are many things to see at Diamond Beach, including the colours of the icebergs. They can range from large blocks of blue ice to tiny chunks of black ice. The colour of icebergs depends on a variety of factors, including age and air pockets. If an iceberg is blue, this means that it is older than it appears, while black ice is usually the result of volcanic dust or sunlight reflecting on the black sand from the beach.

The icebergs in Diamond Beach are the most spectacular in the winter, as the Jokulsarlon Glacial Lagoon fills with huge icebergs. Many of these icebergs are nearly twice as big as people! It’s a fantastic sight to watch, but it’s also a bit tricky to see them during winter due to the lack of sunlight.

Iceberg Sizes

Diamond Beach is a popular beach in Iceland where you can see icebergs of all sizes. Some are huge while others are just tiny chunks. Some are even the size of a Range Rover. If you’re a photographer, you’ll want to bring a wide angle lens. This will allow you to see the icebergs up close and observe the waves flowing around them. However, be aware of sneaker waves.

Diamond Beach is located near the Jokulsarlon glacier lagoon and is adorned with various icebergs of all shapes and sizes. You may wonder how they get there; the icebergs break off of the glacial tongue and are carried out in tides and rivers.

Iceberg Shapes

Icebergs at Diamond Beach take strange shapes and can be a great backdrop for photos. However, they can also be dangerous if they move quickly, and photographers have reported their tripods being knocked over. This is why it is important to take proper precautions when photographing them. If you’d like to take photos of them in their natural habitat, you should visit the area during sunrise and sunset.

Although it is a beautiful place to visit at any time, it is best to visit during the winter months, when the Jokulsarlon Glacial Lagoon is filled with giant icebergs. The icebergs descend to the shore at a massive scale, sometimes more than twice the size of an average person.

Accessibility

Until late 2018, Diamond Beach was not accessible. Luckily, a new set of stairs carved out of limestone has now opened up this beach to the public. You can now walk across and around the rocks, bushes, and sea to access this beach, but it is still not suitable for swimming.

Before the stairs were carved, access to Diamond Beach was limited to the rich and famous. But the developer agreed to construct a public access pathway between his property and the beach. The new stairway only takes a few minutes and provides breathtaking views.

The cost of a trip to Diamond Beach varies depending on your activities. For example, a nice dinner at a fine dining restaurant near Diamond Beach can cost up to $280 per person. Alternatively, you can choose to dine at a more basic restaurant for about $19 per person. A day in Diamond Beach can also cost up to $566 if you opt for private tours.
